Southwark Schools Work Experience
As part of our renewed discussions about social equity in architecture, we would like to showcase a selection of student work from the last decade to celebrate the participants of our work experience programme. We have long standing partnerships with several local schools and accept the students they put forward to us without further selection. The students then spend one or two weeks developing their own design for a work/social/storage space for our team in Iliffe Yard. This introduces them to key architectural tasks such as surveying, researching, drawing, model making and presentation, and gives them a chance to test their skills in both creative and technical areas to inform and inspire future career choices.
By working with local state schools, we feel we can offer an inclusive opportunity that is open to a representative range of students from Southwark. We have not kept a record of how the students themselves identify but they have come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds including a significant proportion of black students. We very much hope that we can safely welcome our next cohort in 2021.
